Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound fresh asparagus, trimmed
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour for a gluten-free option) Use gluten-free flour for a gluten-free version.
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup seasoned breadcrumbs Look for Halal-friendly options.
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Optional grated parmesan cheese for topping (ensure it’s Halal-compliant)

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Rinse the asparagus under cold water and trim off the woody ends.
  3. In one bowl, place the flour. In a second bowl, add the beaten eggs. In a third bowl, mix your seasoned breadcrumbs with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Dip each asparagus spear into the flour, shaking off any excess. Next, coat it in the egg mixture, and finally roll it in the breadcrumb mixture.
  5. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place the coated asparagus fries in a single layer. Drizzle them lightly with olive oil.
Baking
  1. Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  2. Flip them halfway through for even cooking.
Serving
  1. Once they’re out of the oven, allow them to cool for a minute. If desired, sprinkle with grated parmesan before serving.
  2. Grab your favorite dipping sauce, and enjoy!
