For the Dumplings
  • 2 large apples (Granny Smith or your favorite) Use firm apples for better baking results.
  • 1 can crescent roll dough (8 ounces) Store-bought dough for convenience.
For the Syrup
  • 1 cup brown sugar Provides sweetness and rich flavor.
  • 1 stick unsalted butter (1/2 cup) Melted for syrup.
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Sprinkled on apples before rolling.
  • 1 cup Mountain Dew (or lemon-lime soda) Enhances the flavor and creates a bubbly glaze.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Core the apples and cut them into 8 wedges each.
  3. Take a crescent roll triangle, place one apple wedge on the wide end, sprinkle with cinnamon, then roll the dough tightly around the apple. Place the wrapped apple in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, and repeat until all apples are wrapped.
Making the Syrup
  1. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the brown sugar and allow it to dissolve until it becomes a smooth syrup.
  2. Pour the syrup evenly over the wrapped dumplings in the baking dish. Finally, pour the Mountain Dew around the edges.
Baking
  1. Bake the dish in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and the sauce is bubbling.
  2. Let cool slightly before serving. Drizzle extra syrup on the dumplings for added sweetness!

Notes

Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or warm spiced cider for a delightful dessert experience. Leftover dumplings can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave or oven.
