Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef or ground turkey for a lighter version
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 15 ounces can tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

Cooking
  1. In a medium skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked. Drain excess grease.
  2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the beef. Cook until the onion is translucent and fragrant, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the tomato sauce, tomato paste, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, and sugar. Mix well to combine all the flavors.
  4. Reduce the heat to low and allow the sauce to simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally to let the flavors meld together. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Spoon the hot dog sauce generously over grilled hot dogs and add your favorite toppings.

Notes

For a healthier spin, substitute ground turkey for ground beef. Prepare your sauce a day in advance to deepen the flavors. Store in an airtight container for up to one week or freeze for up to three months.
