Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract until well-combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
- Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and chopped nuts (if using).
- Using a tablespoon or cookie scoop, drop rounded balls of dough onto ungreased baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Baking
- Bake in the preheated oven for 9-11 minutes, or until golden brown around the edges but still soft in the center.
- Let them cool on the baking sheets for about 5 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
Notes
For thicker cookies, chill the dough for about 30 minutes before baking. Use high-quality chocolate for better taste. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week or freeze for up to 3 months.
