Ingredients

For the dough
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast 1 packet
  • 1 cup warm milk about 110°F
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted plus more for brushing
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour Start with 3 1/2 cups and add more as needed
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Method

Preparation
  1. In a small bowl, combine warm milk and sugar; sprinkle yeast over the top. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the melted butter, egg, and salt. Pour in the yeast mixture and mix well.
  3. Gradually add flour, one cup at a time, until the dough begins to form and pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
  4. Turn the dough onto a floured surface. Knead for about 5-10 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic, adding more flour as necessary.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour or until it doubles in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Form each piece into a ball and place them in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  7. Cover the rolls and let them rise again for about 30-45 minutes until puffy.
Baking
  1. While the rolls are rising, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Brush the tops of the rolls with melted butter and bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  3. Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy the warm rolls fresh from the oven!

Notes

Don’t rush the rising; patience is key! Flour adjustments may vary depending on humidity. Experiment by adding herbs for extra flavor.
