Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure it's at room temperature
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs At room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 0.75 cup milk or plain yogurt At room temperature
Chocolate Mixture
  • 0.25 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp milk For the chocolate batter

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour a 9x5-inch loaf pan, or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
Mixing
  1. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
  2. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract until fully combined.
  3. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk or yogurt, mixing just until combined. Avoid overmixing.
Creating the Marble Effect
  1. Split the batter evenly into two bowls. Into one bowl, whisk in the cocoa powder and the extra 2 tablespoons of milk until smooth.
  2. Spoon alternating dollops of vanilla and chocolate batter into your prepared loaf pan. Once all the batter is in, drag a butter knife or skewer through it in a gentle zig-zag or figure-eight motion to create the marbled effect. Don’t overmix.
Baking
  1. Bake for 55-65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with just a few moist crumbs.
  2. Let the cake cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

Don't overswirl the batter to maintain distinct marbled effect. Store in an airtight container for up to 4 days at room temperature, or refrigerate for up to a week. For longer storage, freeze individual slices.
