Ingredients

For the Trifle
  • 1 cake Chocolate Cake (1 entire cake or enough cut into layers) Use store-bought or homemade.
  • 2 cups Cherry Filling (or fresh cherries, pitted)
  • 2 cups Whipped Cream (whipped)
  • 1/2 cup Chocolate Shavings (for topping) Can substitute with cocoa powder.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1/4 cup Sugar

Method

Preparation
  1. Prepare the Cake: If you're not using a store-bought chocolate cake, bake your selected cake and let it cool completely.
  2. Make the Whipped Cream: In a mixing bowl, whip the cream until it forms soft peaks. Add vanilla extract and sugar gradually, continuing to blend until properly mixed.
Layering
  1. Layer the Trifle: In a large glass trifle bowl (or individual serving glasses), start with a layer of cake at the bottom. Follow it up with a layer of cherry filling, ensuring even distribution.
  2. Add Whipped Cream: Spoon a generous layer of whipped cream over the cherries, smoothing it into place.
  3. Repeat Layers: Continue layering the chocolate cake, cherry filling, and whipped cream until you've filled the bowl or glasses, finishing off with a whipped cream layer.
Finishing Touches
  1. Garnish and Chill: Sprinkle chocolate shavings on top of the final whipped cream layer for that extra touch of elegance. Refrigerate the trifle for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

Ensure to cool the cake completely before layering to avoid soggy layers. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Avoid freezing.
