Method
Dough Preparation
- In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, active dry yeast, and sugar. Allow it to sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for around 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Boiling and Baking
- In a large pot, boil about 4 cups of water and carefully add the baking soda.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide into small pieces (about 1 inch each). Roll each piece into a ball.
- Gently drop a few pieces into the boiling baking soda solution for about 30 seconds, then remove with a slotted spoon and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Brush each pretzel bite with the beaten egg for a beautiful golden finish.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Bake the pretzel bites for about 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- Allow them to cool slightly, then coat them in cinnamon sugar while they're still warm.
Serving
- These are best served warm. Try them with a sweet cream cheese dip for even more deliciousness!
