Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and ground cinnamon until combined.
- In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and then add the milk and melted butter, mixing until well incorporated.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until formed into a dough. Be careful not to over-mix!
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a rectangle, roughly half an inch thick.
- Cut the dough into strips, about one inch wide and six inches long.
- Twist each strip of dough and place it on the prepared baking sheet.
Baking
- Bake for about 12–15 minutes or until golden brown.
Coating
- While the donuts are baking, combine the sugar and ground cinnamon in a bowl for coating.
- As soon as the donuts come out of the oven, coat them in the cinnamon sugar mixture while they are still warm.
- Allow to cool slightly, then serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
For a dairy-free version, substitute the milk with almond or soy milk, and use a plant-based butter. Keep an eye on them towards the end of the baking time to prevent over-browning. Don't over-knead the dough; you want a soft, fluffy consistency, not tough. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or in the refrigerator for up to a week. Can freeze for up to a month.
