Dough Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Ensure it's fresh
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar For the dough
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder Make sure it's fresh
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon For flavoring the dough
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg For flavoring the dough
  • 1/2 cup milk Use whole milk for richness
  • 2 large eggs Room temperature for better mixing
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted Use unsalted for controlled flavor
Coating Ingredients
  • 1 cup granulated sugar For coating
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon For coating

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, and nutmeg. Whisk together.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and melted butter until smooth.
  4. Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture, stirring until just combined. Don't overmix.
  5. Knead the dough gently on a lightly floured surface for 1-2 minutes until a smooth ball forms.
  6. Roll out the dough into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick. Cut into strips (about 1 inch wide) and twist each strip gently.
Baking
  1. Place the twists on a greased baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine 1 cup of granulated sugar with 2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon. As soon as the twists come out of the oven, coat them in this mixture.
Serving
  1. Let the twists cool slightly on a wire rack, then serve warm.

Notes

Ensure ingredients are at room temperature for even mixing. Store in an airtight container for up to three days, or freeze for up to three months.
