- In a medium saucepan, pour the milk and heat it over medium heat. Stir occasionally until it’s steaming but not boiling.
- Once the milk is warm, lower the heat and add the semi-sweet chocolate chips and cocoa powder. Stir until the chocolate is completely melted and well incorporated.
- Sprinkle in the sugar and pinch of salt. Stir well until all ingredients are combined, taste-testing as you go to adjust sweetness if needed.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and add the vanilla extract and mezcal. Stir until mixed.
- Pour the hot chocolate into mugs and top with your choice of whipped cream, chocolate shavings, cinnamon, or marshmallows for an extra festive touch.
Notes
For a richer flavor, consider using high-quality chocolate or adding a splash of espresso. Pre-mix dry ingredients to save time. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
