Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange the Saltine crackers in a single layer to cover the entire surface.
Making the Toffee
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar over medium heat, stirring continuously until the mixture comes to a boil.
- Once boiling, pour the buttery toffee mixture evenly over the Saltine crackers, ensuring to coat them well.
Baking
- Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 5-7 minutes, or until the mixture is bubbly.
- Remove the sheet from the oven and sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the top. Let them sit for a few minutes until they melt, then spread the melted chocolate with a spatula.
Finishing Touches
- If using, sprinkle chopped nuts over the chocolate layer and optionally add a pinch of sea salt.
- Allow the mixture to cool completely before breaking it into pieces.
Notes
Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week or freeze for up to three months. Separate layers with parchment paper to prevent sticking. Thaw at room temperature before eating.
