Ingredients
  

Main ingredients
  • 40 pieces Saltine crackers Use to cover the baking sheet.
  • 1 cup unsalted butter Melted for toffee.
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar For the toffee mixture.
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips Sprinkled on top of the toffee.
Optional toppings
  • crushed candy canes For festive decoration.

  • sea salt For a sweet and salty flavor.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil and place the Saltine crackers in a single layer, covering the entire sheet.
Making the Toffee
  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and brown sugar. Stir constantly until the mixture comes to a boil.
  2. Allow it to boil for 3-4 minutes without stirring, then remove from heat.
Baking
  1. Immediately pour the toffee mixture over the Saltine crackers, spreading it evenly to ensure that all crackers are coated.
  2. Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 5-7 minutes, or until the toffee is bubbly and golden.
  3. Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot toffee. Let them sit for a few minutes until melted, then spread the melted chocolate evenly over the toffee layer.
Cooling and Serving
  1. If desired, sprinkle any additional toppings over the melted chocolate before it sets.
  2. Allow the entire mixture to cool completely before breaking it into pieces.
  3. Share with friends and family, or keep some for yourself!

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for about a week. If you want to extend freshness, refrigerate. Reheat in the oven at a low temperature if necessary.
