Method
Preparation
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, mix the buttermilk, vegetable oil, egg, and vanilla extract. Once combined, pour this mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix; a few lumps are okay!
Cooking
- Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot (around 350°F or 175°C), carefully drop spoonfuls of the donut batter into the oil. Fry the donuts for about 1-2 minutes on each side until they are golden brown.
- In a small bowl, combine the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract for the glaze, whisking until smooth and glossy.
- Once the donuts have cooled slightly, dip them in the glaze for a divine finish. Allow the excess to drip off.
Serving
- Serve warm and watch them disappear!
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days. For longer storage, freeze them in a single layer and then transfer to a freezer bag.
