Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Mix on medium speed for about two minutes until smooth.
Baking
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Assembling the Cake
- Once cooled, place one cake layer on a serving platter. Drizzle caramel sauce over this layer and sprinkle half of the chopped peanuts.
- Spread a layer of chocolate frosting over the peanuts, then add the second cake layer on top.
- Top with remaining caramel sauce, sprinkle the rest of the peanuts, and add whipped cream or chocolate shavings if desired.
- Slice generously and serve.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Can freeze for up to 3 months. To reheat, warm a slice in the microwave for 15-20 seconds.
