Method
Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter.
Mixing
- In a large bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Stir until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
- Pour the cake batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.
Layering
- Drizzle half of the caramel sauce over the cake batter, then sprinkle the chocolate chips and chopped nuts (if using) on top.
- Drizzle the remaining caramel sauce over everything, letting it sink into the batter.
Baking
- Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow it to cool for a few minutes before serving.
Serving
- Serve warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream on the side.
Notes
For best results, don’t overmix your batter. Adjust for altitude if necessary. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
