Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Grease a baking dish with butter to prevent sticking.
- Thinly slice the potatoes and arrange half of them evenly in the prepared baking dish.
Making the Cheese Sauce
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant (about 1 minute).
- Pour in the heavy cream and bring to a simmer. Stir in half of the cheese until melted, then season with salt and pepper.
Assembling the Dish
- Pour half of the cheese sauce over the potato layer, spreading evenly. Repeat with the remaining potatoes and top with the rest of the cheese sauce.
Baking
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 35 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden and bubbly.
Serving
- Once done, let cool for a few minutes, sprinkle with fresh herbs if desired, and serve warm.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. To reheat, cover with foil and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes. Can freeze for up to 2 months. Reheat from frozen with added baking time.
