Ingredients
  

Meat and Base Ingredients
  • 1 lb ground beef Can substitute with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 pieces eggs
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Plus more for topping.
Vegetables and Seasoning
  • 1 cup diced bell peppers
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 cup ketchup For drizzling on top.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, eggs, diced onion, minced garlic, milk, Worcestershire sauce, and seasoning. Mix well until everything is evenly distributed.
  3. Gently fold in the diced bell peppers and shredded cheddar cheese into the meat mixture.
Assembly and Baking
  1. Spoon the meat mixture into a greased casserole dish, smoothing it out evenly.
  2. Drizzle the ketchup generously on top of the meat mixture.
  3. Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for about 45 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
  4. About 5 minutes before it’s done baking, sprinkle some extra cheese on top.
Serving
  1. Once golden brown and bubbling, remove the casserole from the oven, let it cool for a few minutes, then slice and serve.

Notes

Leftovers will keep in the refrigerator for 3-4 days in an airtight container. This casserole freezes beautifully, just wrap tightly and store for up to 2 months. When reheating, thaw in the fridge overnight and bake until heated through.
