Preparation
- Thaw the frozen hash browns and pat them dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.
Cooking
- Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the halal beef sausage and cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove sausage from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of olive oil. Sauté the diced onions and green bell peppers until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the thawed hash browns to the skillet, spreading them out evenly. Press them down with a spatula. Season with salt and pepper, and cook for about 5 minutes before flipping to get them golden brown on both sides.
- Once the hash browns are crispy, return the cooked sausage to the skillet and sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top. Cover to let the cheese melt for about 2-3 minutes.
- Remove from heat and top with your choice of optional toppings. Serve immediately.
Notes
For a lighter version, substitute with turkey sausage. For extra crunchy hash browns, avoid overcrowding the skillet during cooking.
