Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 cups frozen hash browns, thawed Pat dry with a paper towel for crispiness.
  • 1 lb halal beef sausage, sliced or crumbled Cook until browned.
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Sprinkle on top before serving.
  • 1 small onion, finely diced Adds flavor to the skillet.
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil For cooking the sausage and vegetables.
  • Salt and pepper To taste.
Optional Toppings
  • Green onions, diced For garnish.
  • Tomatoes, diced For added freshness.
  • Hot sauce For an extra kick.

Method

Preparation
  1. Thaw the frozen hash browns and pat them dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.
Cooking
  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the halal beef sausage and cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove sausage from the skillet and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of olive oil. Sauté the diced onions and green bell peppers until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add the thawed hash browns to the skillet, spreading them out evenly. Press them down with a spatula. Season with salt and pepper, and cook for about 5 minutes before flipping to get them golden brown on both sides.
  4. Once the hash browns are crispy, return the cooked sausage to the skillet and sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top. Cover to let the cheese melt for about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat and top with your choice of optional toppings. Serve immediately.

Notes

For a lighter version, substitute with turkey sausage. For extra crunchy hash browns, avoid overcrowding the skillet during cooking.
