Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to get it ready for baking.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until it’s fully cooked. Drain any excess fat.
- Add diced onions to the skillet and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked beef and onions with the uncooked rice, beef broth, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir until well mixed.
- Pour the mixture into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish and spread it evenly.
- Generously sprinkle the shredded cheese on top.
Baking
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
Serving
- Once it’s out of the oven, let it sit for a few minutes before serving. Top with sliced green onions if desired.
Notes
You can substitute the beef for ground turkey or chicken, or use a plant-based protein for a vegetarian version. To store, let it cool completely before transferring to an airtight container, keeping in the fridge for up to 3 days or freezing for up to 3 months. When reheating, use a splash of broth to maintain creaminess.
