Ingredients

For the cookie
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened 2 sticks
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • optional nuts or additional toppings

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until creamy. Then, add in the vanilla extract and eggs, mixing until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  4. Gently fold in the chocolate chips (and nuts, if desired) until they are evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  5. Lightly grease a 10-inch cast iron skillet (or similar oven-safe skillet) and spread the cookie dough evenly in the center.
Baking
  1. Place the skillet in the preheated oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the center is set but still slightly soft.
Serving
  1. Once out of the oven, let the skillet cookie cool for a few minutes. Serve warm with whipped cream or a scoop of ice cream on top.

Notes

For best results, measure your flour properly and avoid overmixing the batter. Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or in the fridge for about 5-7 days. Reheat in the microwave for 15-20 seconds or in a preheated oven for a few minutes.
