Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet dry yeast (2¼ teaspoons)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup milk, warmed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
Caramel Sauce Ingredients
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ½ cup heavy cream
Topping Ingredients
  • 1 cup pecans, roughly chopped
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup granulated sugar

Method

Preparation
  1. Combine warm milk and sugar in a mixing bowl, stirring until sugar dissolves. Sprinkle yeast over mixture and let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add melted butter, eggs, vanilla, and salt to the yeast mixture. Gradually mix in flour until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Transfer dough to a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Making the Caramel Sauce
  1. In a small saucepan, melt together brown sugar, butter, and heavy cream, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat.
Forming the Buns
  1. Once the dough has risen, roll it out into a rectangle. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon. Scatter chopped pecans over dough.
  2. Roll up the dough tightly and cut into 12 equal pieces. Place in a greased baking dish close together.
  3. Pour prepared caramel sauce over buns and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
Baking
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  2. Allow buns to cool for a few minutes before flipping onto a serving platter. Pull apart and enjoy!

Notes

For best results, ensure dough consistency is slightly sticky. Store leftover buns in an airtight container for up to 2 days at room temperature or a week in the refrigerator.
