Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 2 slices sourdough or whole-grain bread Opt for hearty bread for added texture.
  • 4 oz fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced Fresh mozzarella is key for that stretchy, gooey goodness.
  • 1 medium ripe tomato, sliced Use a ripe tomato for the best flavor.
  • 6 leaves fresh basil leaves About 4-6 leaves are ideal.
  • 1-2 tablespoons olive oil or butter for grilling Add more for that extra crispy bread.
  • to taste salt and pepper Season to your preference.

Method

Preparation
  1. Gather all your ingredients and slice the mozzarella and tomato. Wash and pat dry the basil leaves.
Assembly
  1. Lay one slice of bread on a clean surface. Start by layering on the mozzarella, followed by the tomato slices, a sprinkle of salt and pepper, and finally, the fresh basil leaves. Top it off with the second slice of bread.
Cooking
  1. In a medium skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil or butter over medium heat.
  2. Carefully place the assembled sandwich onto the skillet. Grill for about 3-4 minutes until the bottom is golden brown and crispy.
  3. Gently flip the sandwich using a spatula. If you want extra crispy bread, add more oil or butter before flipping. Cook for another 3-4 minutes until the other side is golden and the cheese has melted.
Serving
  1. Remove from the skillet and let it sit for about a minute before slicing it in half. Serve warm and enjoy the melty, flavorful goodness!

Notes

For extra flavor, drizzle with balsamic glaze or olive oil. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Reheat in a skillet for the best texture.
