Preparation
- Start by washing the plums thoroughly. Cut them in half, remove the pits, and chop them into small pieces. You can leave the skins on for added texture and color.
Cooking
- In a large pot, combine the chopped plums, sugar, and lemon juice. Stir the mixture until the sugar starts to dissolve.
- Place the pot over medium heat and bring it to a gentle boil, stirring constantly to prevent sticking.
- Reduce the heat slightly and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until the mixture thickens.
- To check if your jam is ready, place a spoonful on a cold plate. Let it sit for a minute, then run your finger through it. If it holds its shape, it’s good to go!
Jarring
- Prepare your jars by sterilizing them in boiling water. Fill the jars with the hot jam, leaving about 1/4 inch of space at the top. Wipe the rims clean, then seal with lids.
- Process the jars in a boiling water bath for about 10 minutes to ensure they are preserved.
- Remove jars and let them cool on a clean towel or cooling rack.
Storage
- Once cooled, check that the lids have sealed. Store the jars in a cool, dark place, and enjoy your homemade Canned Plum Jam!
Notes
Adjust sugar levels based on the sweetness of plums. Use fresh ingredients for best results. Ensure proper sterilization of jars for preservation.
