Ingredients
  

For the Filling
  • 6 cups apples, peeled and sliced Use a mix of tart and sweet varieties.
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
For the Topping
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened Substitute with coconut oil for a vegan option.
  • 1/4 tsp salt
Moisture Additive
  • 1/2 cup apple juice Used to substitute bourbon.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples with 1/4 cup of brown sugar and 1 tsp of cinnamon. Spread the apples evenly in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix together the remaining brown sugar, all-purpose flour, rolled oats, and salt. Add the softened butter and crumble it together until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Pour the apple juice over the apples in the baking dish.
  5. Evenly sprinkle the topping mixture over the apples.
Baking
  1. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and apples are tender.
  2. Let it cool for a few minutes, and serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or drizzle with caramel sauce.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat in the microwave or oven.
