Ingredients

Berry Mixture
  • 4 cups fresh blackberries (or frozen, thawed and drained) Use fresh, ripe blackberries for best flavor.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar Adjust based on the tartness of the blackberries.
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Crumble Topping
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed Essential for a crispy topping.
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon Add in other spices like nutmeg for extra flavor.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the blackberries, granulated sugar, and lemon juice. Gently stir to coat the blackberries evenly and let them sit for about 10 minutes to release their juices.
  3. In another bowl, mix together the flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and salt. Add the cold, cubed butter. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Grease a baking dish and pour the blackberry mixture into the bottom. Evenly sprinkle the crumble topping over the blackberries, covering them completely.
Baking
  1. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 30 to 35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the blackberries are bubbling beneath.
  2. Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes
