Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the breakfast sausage until fully browned, stirring occasionally to crumble.
- Add flour to the cooked sausage and stir well to create a roux. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring no lumps form. Add black pepper, salt, garlic powder, and onion powder, and continue cooking until thickened.
- Cut the refrigerated biscuits into quarters and, if desired, toss them with cheese in a bowl.
- Pour half of the gravy mixture into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, layer biscuit pieces on top, and then pour remaining gravy over the biscuits.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.
- Let cool for a few minutes before serving warm.
Notes
For substitutions, consider Halal turkey sausage or plant-based alternatives. Check casseroles around the 25-minute mark to prevent over-browning. Cut biscuits into smaller pieces for better absorption of gravy.
