Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 can refrigerated biscuits Can be substituted with Halal-friendly options.
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage (Halal) Can use turkey sausage or a plant-based option.
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional, Halal) For added flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the breakfast sausage until fully browned, stirring occasionally to crumble.
  3. Add flour to the cooked sausage and stir well to create a roux. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
  4. Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring no lumps form. Add black pepper, salt, garlic powder, and onion powder, and continue cooking until thickened.
  5. Cut the refrigerated biscuits into quarters and, if desired, toss them with cheese in a bowl.
  6. Pour half of the gravy mixture into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, layer biscuit pieces on top, and then pour remaining gravy over the biscuits.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Let cool for a few minutes before serving warm.

Notes

For substitutions, consider Halal turkey sausage or plant-based alternatives. Check casseroles around the 25-minute mark to prevent over-browning. Cut biscuits into smaller pieces for better absorption of gravy.
