Preparation
- Drain and rinse the can of chickpeas under cold water to eliminate any tin flavor.
- In a food processor, combine the chickpeas, tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, ground cumin, and a pinch of salt.
- Pulse the ingredients for about 30 seconds to incorporate the flavors.
- Slowly drizzle in water, a tablespoon at a time, while blending until you achieve your desired creamy consistency.
- Taste the hummus and adjust the seasoning as necessary; add more salt or lemon juice if needed.
- Transfer the hummus to a serving bowl and garnish with olive oil and paprika or fresh herbs if desired.
- Serve with pita bread or vegetable sticks.
Notes
For optimal flavor, refrigerate the hummus for at least 30 minutes before serving. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 5-7 days or freeze for up to three months. Thaw in the refrigerator and stir before serving; add water or olive oil to regain consistency if needed.
