Preparation
- Gather all your ingredients and set them on your countertop for easy access.
- Using a rolling pin or a flat surface, gently flatten each slice of bread.
- If you’re using optional fillings, spread a thin layer of your desired filling (like cream cheese or fruits) onto each slice of flattened bread.
- Carefully roll up each slice tightly from one end to the other, ensuring they hold their shape.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and sugar until well combined.
Cooking
- Dip each rolled-up bread piece into the egg mixture, ensuring all sides are coated.
- In a large skillet, melt a generous pat of butter over medium heat.
- Place the coated rolls seam side down in the skillet. Fry for 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.
- Once cooked, transfer the rolls to a paper towel-lined plate to absorb any excess butter, then sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired.
- Drizzle with syrup and top with fresh fruits before serving warm.
Notes
If you have leftovers, allow the French toast roll ups to cool completely before storing in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in a toaster oven or skillet.
