Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb ground beef (use Halal ground beef) Can substitute with ground chicken or turkey
  • 2 medium onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • to taste Salt and pepper Season according to your preference
  • 1 cup beef broth (Halal)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (ensure Halal-certified)
  • 4 pieces hamburger buns Toast if desired
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (Swiss or mozzarella) For a classic French onion touch

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally until they become caramelized and golden brown.
  2. Once the onions are ready, push them to the side and add the ground beef into the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula.
  3. Sprinkle the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper over the beef. Mix in the caramelized onions until they’re well combined.
  4. Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Stir the mixture, allowing it to simmer for 5 minutes until everything is heated through and the liquid is slightly reduced.
  5. Spoon a generous portion of the beef mixture onto the bottom bun and top it with shredded cheese.
  6. If you prefer melty cheese, place the sandwiches under the broiler for 1-2 minutes—watch closely to prevent burning!
  7. Cap it with the top bun and enjoy your delicious Best French Onion Beef Sloppy Joes!

Notes

Substitutions: Ground beef can be swapped with ground chicken or turkey (ensure they’re Halal-certified). Be patient while caramelizing the onions for the best flavor. Taste as you go to adjust seasoning, and avoid undercooking the beef.
