Ingredients

For the churro dough
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup butter unsalted
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour can substitute with gluten-free blend
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 3 pieces eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the coating
  • 1/2 cup sugar for coating
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon for coating

Method

Preparation of Dough
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the water, butter, salt, and sugar. Bring this mixture to a boil over medium heat.
  2. Once boiling, remove from heat and quickly stir in the flour until a dough forms. Transfer the dough to a mixing bowl.
  3. Allow the dough to cool slightly, then beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract until smooth.
Cooking
  1. In a deep skillet, heat about 2 inches of oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  2. Spoon the dough into a piping bag fitted with a star-shaped nozzle. Pipe small bite-sized pieces directly into the hot oil, cutting them with scissors.
  3. Fry until they are golden brown, about 2-3 minutes. Avoid overcrowding the pan—fry in batches if necessary.
  4. Once cooked, remove the churro bites using a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel. While they’re still warm, toss them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  5. Serve warm and enjoy the delightful crunch!

Notes

For perfect churros, ensure the dough is smooth and well-mixed. Monitor the oil temperature closely. Store leftover churro bites in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for a month.
