Ingredients

For the cookies
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour Spoon flour into measuring cup and level it off.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Can be substituted with a dairy-free option.
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs Can be substituted with an egg substitute.
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips Make sure they are halal-certified.
  • 1 cup chopped nuts Optional, ensure halal.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next. Mix in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, blending just until combined.
  6. Gently fold in the chocolate chips and nuts, if using, with a spatula.
  7. Drop generous portions of dough onto a lined baking sheet, leaving space between each.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and the center remains soft.
  9. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For thicker cookies, consider chilling the dough for 30 minutes before baking. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week or freeze for up to three months.
