  • 1 pound ground beef Use lean ground beef for a healthier option.
  • 12 ounces pasta (your choice: spaghetti, penne, etc.) Cook according to package instructions.
  • 28 ounces crushed tomatoes (1 can) Choose your favorite brand.
  • 1 small onion, diced Adds flavor and sweetness.
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced Fresh garlic is recommended for best flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil For sautéing the aromatics.
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • to taste Salt and pepper Adjust based on preference.
Garnish
  • Fresh basil Fresh basil, for garnish Chopped or whole for presentation.
  • Grated parmesan cheese Grated parmesan cheese, for garnish Adds a salty flavor and creaminess.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add a pinch of salt and cook pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil. Once hot, add the diced onion. Sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  3. Push the onions to the side of the skillet and add the ground beef. Break it apart with a spatula and cook until browned, approximately 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  4. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  5. Add the cooked pasta to the skillet and toss to combine. Ensure every strand is coated in that heavenly sauce!
  6. Plate the pasta and garnish with fresh basil and a generous sprinkle of grated parmesan cheese. Enjoy!

Notes

Consider serving with a fresh garden salad and garlic bread. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
