  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese Ensure no non-Halal rennet is used for vegetarian option.
  • 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • to taste pinch Salt

Preparation
  1. Gather your ingredients: Measure out the fresh basil, garlic, and pine nuts.
  2. Toast the pine nuts (optional): Lightly toast the pine nuts in a dry skillet over medium heat for about 3-4 minutes until golden.
  3. Blend the basil and garlic: In a food processor, combine the basil leaves, garlic cloves, and toasted pine nuts. Pulse until finely chopped.
  4. Incorporate the cheese: Add grated Parmesan cheese to the mixture and pulse until coarsely combined.
  5. Add the olive oil: With the processor running, slowly drizzle in the olive oil until blended. Scrape down the sides as needed.
  6. Season to taste: Add salt to taste and pulse to incorporate. Your Basil Pesto is now ready to enjoy!

Notes

For substitutions, walnuts or almonds can replace pine nuts. For freshness, consider making pesto the same day you plan to use it. Avoid over-processing to maintain a slightly chunky texture.
