Ingredients

Puff Pastry and Filling
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed if frozen) Ensure the puff pastry is properly thawed for easy handling.
  • 2 pieces apples (peeled, cored, and sliced) A mix of tart and sweet apple varieties is recommended for optimal flavor.
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 piece egg (beaten) For egg wash to give the pastry a lovely, golden finish.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). This ensures the pastry will puff perfectly in the oven.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Mix well until the apples are coated in the sweetening mixture.
  3. Roll out the puff pastry gently on a lightly floured surface. Aim for a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  4. Place the apple mixture onto the puff pastry, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges. Fold the edges over the filling, creating a small border around the apples.
  5. Brush the edges of the pastry with the beaten egg.
  6. Bake for 25 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed up.
  7. Cool slightly before slicing and serving. You can add a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra treat!

Notes

Use a variety of apples for elevated flavor. Avoid overcrowding the apples to prevent a soggy pastry. Keep an eye on baking time, as ovens vary.
