  • 2 to 3 pieces apples, peeled and sliced Granny Smith or Honeycrisp are recommended for balance of tart and sweet.
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons flour Helps thicken juices as the pie bakes.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Provides warmth and spice.
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice Enhances apple flavor.
  • 1 package pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
  • to taste tablespoons Butter (for topping) For richness and flavor.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Toss until the apples are well coated.
  3. Roll out the pie crust on a floured surface until it’s about 1/8 inch thick, or fit the store-bought crust into your pie pan.
  4. Pour the apple mixture into the prepared pie crust.
  5. Dot the apple mixture with small pieces of butter.
  6. Cover with another pie crust and cut slits into the top crust.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  2. Let the pie cool for at least 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

For enhancing flavor, opt for a mix of sweet and tart apples. Pre-bake the bottom crust for 10 minutes to avoid sogginess. Store leftovers covered for 3-4 days or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat at 350°F (175°C) for 15-20 minutes.
