Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 ¼ teaspoons)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
Filling Ingredients
  • 2 cups peeled and diced apples (like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method

Prepare the Dough
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, active dry yeast, cinnamon, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the warm milk, melted butter, and eggs until smooth. Slowly add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, mixing until well combined.
Knead the Dough
  1. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
First Rise
  1. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Prepare the Filling
  1. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, diced apples, and a sprinkle of cinnamon to create the delightful swirl.
Shape the Loaf
  1. After the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle about ½-inch thick. Spread the apple filling evenly over the surface, then roll the dough tightly from the long side.
Second Rise
  1. Place the rolled loaf seam-side down in a greased loaf pan. Cover and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes, until it has risen slightly above the edges of the pan.
Bake
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the bread for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.
Cool and Enjoy
  1. Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Slice it up and enjoy!

Notes

Make sure not to overbake for a moist texture. You can substitute pears or add nuts for variations. Avoid using hot water to keep the yeast active.
