Amish Sour Cream Cornbread: A Comforting Classic!

Is there anything more heartwarming than the aroma of freshly baked cornbread wafting through your home? The soft, slightly sweet texture of Amish Sour Cream Cornbread is like a warm hug on a plate. Perfectly golden with a hint of tang from the sour cream, this cornbread is not just a side dish; it’s a delightful addition that can elevate any meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup corn flour
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup melted butter

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x9-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the dry ingredients: corn flour, all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until everything is evenly combined.
  3. In another bowl, combine your wet ingredients: sour cream, eggs, and melted butter. Stir gently until the mixture is smooth and well blended.
  4. Combine both mixtures: Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Carefully mix them together until just combined—be careful not to overmix, as we want that delightful, fluffy texture!
  5. Pour the batter into the greased pan and bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Allow the cornbread to cool for a few minutes in the pan, then transfer it to a wire rack. Cut it into squares, and enjoy the heavenly, tender slices of cornbread!
