Preparation
- In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of water, 2 tablespoons of sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat.
- Once boiling, remove the saucepan from heat and stir in 1 cup of all-purpose flour and 1/4 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder. Mix until a ball forms.
- Add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and 1/4 cup of vegetable oil to the dough. Mix well until everything is combined.
- Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip. On a baking mat or parchment paper, pipe 4- to 6-inch lengths of dough, then cut them with scissors.
- While shaping the churros, preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
Cooking
- Place the churros in a single layer in the air fryer basket, making sure they’re not crowded. Air fry for about 10 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crisp.
- Remove the churros from the air fryer and immediately toss them in cinnamon sugar for that extra flavor!
Notes
To store churros, place them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Refrigerate for up to a week or freeze for up to a month. Reheat in the air fryer for a few minutes to restore crispiness.
