Preparation
- In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of water, 2 tablespoons of sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Bring this mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat.
- Once boiling, add 1 cup of all-purpose flour to the saucepan. Stir it vigorously with a wooden spoon until it forms a ball of dough. Remove from heat and let it cool for a minute.
- Once the dough has cooled slightly, beat in 2 large eggs, one at a time. This will create a smooth, silky dough that’s perfect for churros.
- Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star-shaped nozzle. Pipe 4-inch long strips directly onto parchment paper.
- Before you air fry, spray your air fryer basket with cooking spray and preheat it to 375°F (190°C).
Cooking
- Carefully place the churro strips in the basket, ensuring they are not touching. Air fry for about 10 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
- As soon as they come out, roll the churros in cinnamon sugar to give them that classic touch.
Notes
For substitutions, whole wheat flour can be used for a healthier option. Make sure to air fry in batches to avoid overcrowding. Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days or freeze for up to a month. To reheat, pop them back in the air fryer at 375°F for 3-5 minutes.
