Preparation
- In a medium saucepan, combine the water, sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
- Once boiling, remove from heat and add the flour, stirring continuously until the mixture forms a doughy ball.
- Let the mixture cool slightly before adding the eggs and vanilla extract. Beat them in one at a time until the dough is smooth and well-combined.
Cooking
- Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star-shaped nozzle. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
- Pipe 4-5 inch long strips of dough onto parchment paper or directly into the air fryer basket, leaving some space between each churro for expansion.
- Lightly spray the churros with cooking spray and air fry them for about 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
- Once cooked, immediately remove the churros and toss them in a mix of sugar and cinnamon for extra sweetness. Serve warm!
Notes
To make churros gluten-free, use a gluten-free all-purpose flour blend. Monitor cooking time as air fryers can vary in temperature. If the dough is too sticky, add more flour until you reach the right consistency. Store in an airtight container for up to three days or freeze for up to a month.
