A Slice of Heaven in Every Bite

When it comes to pizza, few styles evoke as much passion and debate as Chicago-style deep dish pizza! With its thick, buttery crust, layers of gooey mozzarella, and rich, tangy tomato sauce, this dish is an explosion of flavor that feels like a warm hug on a plate.

Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/2 cup yellow cornmeal
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup pizza sauce
  • Toppings of your choice such as pepperoni, bell peppers, or mushrooms

Method

  1. Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine the sugar with warm water, stirring in the yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Make the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, mix together flour, cornmeal, and salt. Pour in the yeast mixture and the olive oil. Stir until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until the dough is smooth.
  4. Let it Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for approximately 1 hour in a warm place until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the Oven: While the dough is rising, preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
  6. Prepare the Pizza Pan: Roll out the dough and press it into a deep dish pizza pan, ensuring it covers the bottom and the sides.
  7. Layer the Ingredients: Start with a generous layer of mozzarella cheese. Add your desired toppings, then pour the pizza sauce evenly over the top.
  8. Bake: Bake the pizza for 25-30 minutes until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
  9. Cool and Serve: Allow it to cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm and enjoy with family and friends!
