Have you ever craved a dessert that’s not only delicious but also reminds you of warm summer afternoons spent with family? Enter Fried Apple or Peach Pies! These little pockets of bliss are stuffed with juicy, flavorful fruit and enveloped in a crispy shell that’s simply irresistible.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1-2 cups apples or peaches sliced and prepared
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  • Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Cut in the shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add water to form a smooth dough. Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes.
  • Roll Out Dough: On a floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to about 1/8 inch thick, and cut out circles using a round cutter.
  • Prepare the Filling: In a saucepan, mix the sliced fruit with sugar and butter over medium heat. Cook until the fruit is soft, then remove from heat and let it cool.
  • Fill the Dough: Place a spoonful of the cooled fruit filling in the center of each dough circle. Carefully fold over and seal the edges using a fork.
  • Fry the Pies: In a deep frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Fry the pies, a few at a time, for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
  • Drain and Serve: Remove the fried pies from the oil and let them drain on paper towels. They are best served warm, sprinkled with cinnamon sugar if desired.
