Preparation
- Prepare the cake according to the box instructions. Bake it in a 9x13-inch pan and let it cool completely.
- Once the cake is cooled, crumble it into a large bowl until it resembles fine crumbs.
- Mix in the frosting, a little at a time, until the mixture is moist and able to hold its shape when rolled into balls.
- Roll the mixture into equal-sized balls (about 1 inch in diameter) and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Melt some of the red or blue candy melts according to package instructions.
- Dip the end of a lollipop stick into the melted candy and insert it halfway into the cake ball.
- Chill the cake pops in the freezer for about 20 minutes until firm.
Dipping and Decorating
- Dip each cake pop in the remaining melted candy melts, allowing any excess to drip off.
- Before the coating sets, sprinkle red, white, and blue sprinkles generously over the pops.
- Place the cake pops upright in a styrofoam block or a cake pop stand and allow them to set completely.
Serving
- Serve and enjoy your colorful 4th of July Cake Pops!
Notes
For perfect cake pops, aim for uniform ball sizes. If candy melts are too thick, add vegetable oil to thin. Keep your workspace cool to prevent melting during dipping.
