Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 cups crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup diced onion
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (optional, to balance acidity)

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Add the diced onions and sauté for about 5 minutes, until translucent.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute, ensuring not to let it burn.
  4. Pour in the crushed tomatoes, stirring everything together.
  5. Add oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and sugar (if using). Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
  6. Let the sauce simmer on low heat for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. If the sauce is too thick, add a little water to reach the desired consistency. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed.
  8. Toss your freshly cooked spaghetti in the sauce, or serve it on top, and enjoy!

Notes

For best results, use fresh herbs, simmer longer for deeper flavors, and opt for high-quality crushed tomatoes. Consider adding veggies like carrots or bell peppers for added nutrition.
