Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 large large eggs Make sure they are fresh.
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce Choose a low-sodium variant if preferred.
  • 2 tablespoons scallions, finely chopped Fresh scallions enhance the dish’s flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon chili flakes Adjust to taste.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, and chili flakes. Stir until well blended.
  2. Place water in a pot and bring it to a boil. Gently drop in the eggs and let them simmer for about 6-7 minutes for a soft-boiled texture, adjusting time if firmer yolks are preferred.
  3. Once the eggs are cooked, immediately transfer them to an ice bath to stop the cooking process.
  4. After the eggs have cooled, gently tap to crack the shell and peel under running water to ensure the membrane comes off cleanly.
  5. Place the peeled eggs in a glass container and pour the soy sauce mixture over them. Ideally, let them marinate overnight, but two hours works as well.
  6. When ready to eat, slice the eggs in half, drizzle over some extra sauce, garnish with scallions and sesame seeds, and enjoy!

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. They can be eaten cold or reheated. For longer storage, these eggs can be frozen, but consume them fresh for best flavor and texture.
