Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb beef (flank steak or sirloin), thinly sliced Substitutions available - see tips
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil For cooking
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, minced
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by thinly slicing your beef. For the best results, freeze it for about 30 minutes before slicing.
  2. In a bowl, combine the beef with soy sauce, oyster sauce, and cornstarch. Let it marinate for at least 10 minutes.
Cooking
  1. In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
  2. Quickly add the marinated beef to the pan, cooking it for about 3-4 minutes until it’s browned. Remove it from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and ginger. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Toss in the broccoli florets and stir-fry them for 2-3 minutes until bright green and tender-crisp.
  5. Return the beef to the skillet and add water. Stir together, cooking for another 1-2 minutes until heated through. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Plate your beef and broccoli and enjoy with steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

For substitutions, chicken breast or tofu can be used as alternatives. Make sure the pan is hot enough before adding the beef to achieve browning. Take care not to overcook the broccoli, keeping it tender but crisp.
